Get to know the Nonbinary Pride Flags

Genderqueer Pride Flag

  • Green: The contrasting color of lavender. It represents people who fall outside of the binary.

Creator: Marilyn Roxie ; Year created: 2011

Genderqueer is a gender identity that refers to people who do not see themselves as completely male or female. It is similar to the meaning of non-binary.

Between 2010 to 2011, Marilyn created 3 different versions of the flag. The current design was finalized in June 2011 and started to become popular.

The Genderqueer Pride Flag was accused of being too similar to the suffragette flag of the Women’s Social and Political Union of the United kingdom created in 1908. The United Kingdom Trans-exclusionary Radical Feminist (UK TERF) have recently declared their stance using this flag. To prevent confusion, some people from the Non-binary community decided to stop using the flag.

Marilyn replied on their official website that: They will not change the design of the Genderqueer Pride Flag.
